About Fall Ball

Fall League provides an excellent opportunity for new players to learn about the game and gain experience-playing fastpitch.

Schedules will be determined first by ability of the teams, then by location. After the first weekend of play, results will be posted through the MN Softball Fall page, on the team pages and teams will advance to the September game sites by record, 2-0 will advance to site A, 1-1 to site B, and 0-2 to site C, etc., for each week.
After Week 4, the MN Softball will use an algorithm to seed the teams in the State tournament based on their record and stats which will be posted on-line.

Because of fall weather conditions and Sunday play, all games will be scheduled for 1 hour and 5 minutes- allowing for the last inning to be completed, and one inning of international tiebreaker if the game is tied.  Free substitution and round robin batting is mandatory.  5 runs per inning rule during 3-week league play for 10U, 12U with 10U keeping the rule the entire season.

Age Requirements
Age determination is based on the age of your player on 12/31/2019.
If she is 8 or younger on 12/31/2019, she will play 8U;
If she is 9 or 10 on the date, she will play 10U;
if she is 11 or 12, on the date, she will play 12U;
if 13 or 14, on the date, then 14U; etc.
Fall Ball uses the same age requirements as Summer 2020.

 Benefits of playing:

1.    Especially for 8U players (first time 10U players), or for players who are transitioning age levels, learning the different pace of the game is huge.

a.     Stealing bases, going on passed balls, taking leads off the base, bunt defense, etc. The ball used is a hard ball (not the "softie")

b.    Pitchers at 10U pitch from 35 feet

c.     Pitchers at 12U move back to 40 feet and use the bigger 12" ball.  This is a big deal and takes time to transition.

Each team plays two games each Saturday/Sunday against different opponents. Game times are either 12:00 & 1:30 or 3:00 & 4:30.  There may be occurrences your team is split between times if a location has an off number of teams or fields to use.

Fall Ball is a combination of both the Big West League (which is our regular league) and Tri County League.  The MN SOFTBALL is the governing body of Fall Ball.
